Corrected age in a preterm baby's record
For a baby born early, calendar age and corrected age answer different questions. Keep both dates and ask the care team which age to use for each record.
For a baby born preterm, record the birth date and the original due date. Calendar age counts time since birth; corrected age adjusts for how early the baby arrived when discussing development. Ask the baby's clinician which age to use for a particular growth chart, developmental discussion or appointment. A date calculation cannot judge an individual child's progress. Two dates, different uses

Indonesia's Ministry of Health provides a Buku KIA Khusus Bayi Kecil for small babies and explains how its record can continue into the usual Buku KIA with corrected age. Observe, record, ask
- Observe ordinary play and care moments without comparing with another child.
- Record birth date, due date, the clinician's age convention, and a few dated examples.
- Ask which age applies to each next visit, measurement and developmental discussion.
